The new Cacique Awards Procedure was passed at the NDATT Extraordinary General Meeting held on 13 October 1996. It is set out in a document available from the Secretariat. Here it is in brief:
- The Voting Season will run from the Ash Wednesday of one year to the Carnival Tuesday of the following year.
- The Voting Procedure will take place as follows:
- A Consideration List of eligible productions/ individuals will be compiled.
- This will be voted on and will produce the top four names in each Category.
- This will be the Nomination List.
- A second round of voting will take place to produce the Winner in each Category.
- A Criteria for Submissions has been set and must be met in order to register for Cacique Consideration.
- Consideration List and Panelists. Member Groups and Individuals must make their submissions to the Secretariat. They are also required to submit the names of Potential Panelists.
- The Secretariat - in consultation with the Cacique Awards Committee - will check the criteria and compile the Consideration List and list of Potential Panelists. These will be handed over to the Co-ordinators.
- The Co-ordinators - not aligned to any group or eligible for any award - appointed by the Executive to interview Panelists to ensure the eligibility. The Co-ordinators would then supply each Panelist with Voting Forms - in the first instance for Nomination Ballot and in the second instance for the Final Ballot to produce the winner in each Category.
- The Tabulators - an Accounting Firm, appointed by the Executive to tabulate votes in the first instance for the Nominees and in the second instance for the Winner in each Category to be announced at the Awards Ceremony.
