founders

We owe the formation of the National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago to the enlightened vision of James Lee Wah. In December 1979 he attended a meeting of the delegates from Trinidad theatre groups convened to discuss a drama festival; the minutes of the meeting stated that "Mr Lee Wah expressed the hope that an association of drama groups would be formed after the festival."

development

NDATT began with the noteworthy aims of theatre education, development of children's theatre, encouragement of young playwrights, promotion of drama festivals and an annual awards system. NDATT continues to do all this and more.

act of parliament

At a followup meeting on 30 January 1980, James proposed its formation. He felt that the drama fraternity could gain from a united body to promote drama and the interests of drama groups. Errol Jones moved a formal motion, seconded by Peter Smart, calling the National Drama Association into existence. On July 26th 1980 the inaugural meeting of the National Drama Association took place at the Little Carib Theatre.

In 1989, NDATT became a national organisation incorporated by an act of Parliament.
